The Disease Doctor Shares

4 Important Public Health Discoveries from 2016:

1. Established a Causal Link Between Zika Virus Infection During Pregnancy and Serious Brain Abnormalities
2. Annual HIV diagnoses among persons who inject drugs decreased by 48% overall (2008–2014). More than half of persons who inject drugs used a syringe services program in 2015, but only 1/4 got all of their syringes from such programs.
3. Drug overdose is the leading cause of accidental death in the US, with 55,403 lethal drug overdoses in 2015. Opioid addiction is driving this epidemic.
4. U.S. Uninsured Rate at 11.0%, Lowest in Eight-Year Trend
